CBD OIL's Magic for my TBI

Something I struggled with a lot especially at the beginning of my brain injury was excessive head pain and lack of sleep. I was told by the doctors that I would just have to learn to deal with the head pain. Tylenol or Ibuprofen wouldn't do anything because I was not dealing with a typical headache.

Let me explain a little, when I say head pain, I mean it felt like someone drove a stake through my head. I apologize if that is triggering to anyone but I want to be honest on what type of pain I am speaking of. This wasn't just a migraine or a little headache, this was debilitating. While I was struggling with the pain during the day, at night I could fall asleep but I wouldn't stay asleep. My head pain would wake me and then once I was awake my brain was just want to get into warp speed and think non stop. Couple the head pain with the lack of sleep and you have a recipe for disaster. My brain could not heal in these conditions. I went to my neurologist explaining what I was dealing with and his answer was to put me on an antidepressant. I didn't see how this was going to help me sleep and being someone who does not like to take drugs unless I need to it didn't seem like a good option for me. He then suggested I take magnesium to help relax my body and slow my brain down. This at first was something I was willing to try. I mean we all need more magnesium these days and I knew this wouldn't hurt me. A few weeks into taking the magnesium it did help but just like everything else my body adjusted and the effects wore off. The pain never really subsided but I was able to sleep a little bit longer but it still wasn't enough.

The pain coupled with the lack of sleep was irritating other areas of my brain and making me feel frustrated and emotionally on edge even more then I was already feeling. Then a friend suggested I looked into CBD oil. I knew very little about it but did know it has had some amazing effects for other people dealing with other brain issues. As I researched this product more and more I often wondered why no one was speaking about this or at least offering it as a suggestion to TBI survivors to try. One thing I want to be sure to preference first and foremost is please be sure your getting a quality product before you purchase or try any CBD oil. That really is essential and I know for myself I am already mindful about what I put into my body and how it will effect my gut and brain health.

After trying a few different brands that were hit and miss I was able to find one that has really helped in some major ways. It's funny, I found them on a road trip I took to Durango, CO and they happen to be at the local farmers market. After talking to their founder, he explained to me their process for creating it and why they got into the CBD oil business to begin with. He had friends with TBI's and was surprised to see that a lot of CBD manufacturers were adding chemicals to cheapen the product for better a revenue stream. He wanted to honor the product for what it was and could see how it had helped so many of not only his friends but others who were dealing with other aliments. That day, with my friends suggestion who knew a lot about CBD oils, I bought a bottle of their CBD oil. My friend also bought a big bottle of their oil for her dogs. Hey, we all need healing in one way or another.

I have to say I have been taking this oil for well over a year now and the first thing I noticed was how my head pain subsided. I also felt more relaxed and with those two things I could begin teaching my brain how to sleep again. Yes you read that correctly I had to re teach my brain how to sleep but that will be explained in another blog post.

This has always been my philosophy when it comes to healing from my TBI, try anything once. If it cannot hurt me then why not try it. If it doesn't work then it didn't work but if it does who knows where that can take me or help me. This CBD oil has been a game changer for me not only with my TBI but with other areas as well. My anxiety, depression and overall emotional health also improved. I have used it topically as well as mainly sublingually. I take it under my tongue and no this product does not get you high or make you feel high. That being said I always say use your own discernment and see what feels good for you. As with all of our injuries everything can be experienced differently depending on what your dealing with.

Here are some quick facts if your new to CBD Oil in regards to TBI's:

1. Whats the difference between full spectrum vs broad spectrum?

Full spectrum is the complete extract of the hemp plant including all terpenes, cannabinoids such as CBD, CBG, CBC, and THC. Broad spectrum is the same extract that undergoes a process to remove the THC.

2. Overall benefits for CBD Oil and TBI's

CBD provides a more natural option for symptom management and has been shown to reduce seizures, improve mood, and reduce inflammation.

3. CBD Oil for Brain Protection

Phytocannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD), trigger the same response in the endocannabinoid system, suggesting that the use of CBD post-injury can boost the brain's natural, protective functions.

4. CBD Oil for Reduced Inflammation

The CB2 receptors in the central nervous system play a significant role in controlling inflammation, as do the A2A receptors. CBD interacts with these receptors to increase their effects and reduce inflammation.

5. CBD Oil for Memory Loss

Memory loss and a lack of information retention are common after a traumatic brain injury. CBD oil’s ability to address inflammation and repair neural pathways can help improve memory loss that has occurred as a result of an injury.

6. CBD Oil for Post-TBI Recovery

Where TBI is associated with injury to the skull or facial bones, CBD oil may increase the speed at which the skeletal damage heals. A 2015 study found that when rats were given cannabidiol post-fracture, their bones healed stronger and faster than the control group that was not treated with CBD.
